Ladybirds

Our Baby Unit caters for up to 12 children aged between 3 months and 2 years of age and our very experienced trained staff are chosen for their ability to relate to this age group - and for their compassion, not only for the children but also for those parents who are leaving a very young child for the first time in the care of others.

Staffing: Child ratios in the Baby Unit are kept at a minimum of 3:1 but we usually have extra staff available throughout the day which enables us to have a 2:1 staff ratio during our busiest times.

All of our staff undergo enhanced CRB checks in order to ensure that your children are kept safe from harm.  Our staff are required to undertake further training in childcare learning and development to ensure that your children have the very best possible learning opportunities available.

Children in our Baby Unit have ample opportunities for taking part in a wide range of activities including Art & Craft, Counting, Messy play, Construction play, Role play, Song and Story sessions, Early Makaton Signing, Music and Sensory Experiences etc…

The wide range of equipment and toys available to our babies has been carefully chosen for the stimulation, safety and enjoyment of children aged from 3 months – 2 years of age. These include ‘traditional’ wooden toys, ‘modern’ electronic toys, mobility toys and aids and a wide range of equipment designed to stimulate their sensory and educational learning.

Our babies use the garden with the other children, although when necessary we create a 'baby only zone' which ensures their safety and security whilst playing outdoors.

A Key person is appointed to each child (and their parents/carers) when they join our Nursery.
Your Key person will undertake continual observations of your child and will ensure that you get daily feedback through your child’s daily diary and/or in person, and will also feedback to the Nursery Management daily.

In addition, all parents can expect a formal meeting with the key person twice a year, or whenever you would like to meet (informally or formally) to review their progress and next step plans.

Our babies have daily opportunities to visit the other rooms in the Nursery, and to interact with the older children and the staff.  This ensures that when they are due to ‘move up’ to the next room, they not only feel confident and secure but they also have the opportunity to interact with our ‘Pre-School’ children who will welcome them and ensure that they have good role models to follow.

We do provide nappies for your child.  If you wish to supply your own nappies or cream then please bring this is with you.

Food

Homemade nutritious meals are prepared onsite which are adapted to the correct texture and portion size for your child.  We provide breakfast (if you arrive before 8.15am) and also have a mid-morning and afternoon snack.  Snacks usually consist of fruit and vegetables, using as much organic and local produce as possible. We do not usually supply proprietary baby foods but are happy to give these to your child if you want to bring them in.  Full fat organic milk is available for children over 12 months, those needing formula are asked to bring in prepared bottles which are clearly labelled.
